Juror - Alexis Silk
Since receiving her BFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2005, Alexis Silk has devoted herself full time to creating figurative art in hot-sculpted hand-blown glass.
Aesthetically and conceptually Alexis describes the source of her inspiration as being all around her. “The human figure in its many forms is a window on and connection to our humanity (and divinity). There is always ambiguity. Power, for example, can be expressed as ugly, demeaning and objectifying, or it can be beautiful, strong and joyful. In the end, the work is always about people, our relationships with each other, nature, and society.”
Technically Alexis pushes boundaries of what’s possible. Sculpting free-hand while the glass is hot on the blowpipe, she creates figures up to larger than life-size.
Alexis’s work is featured in the best galleries in Murano, Italy, plus galleries in London, Macau and across the United States. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette, Indiana and Odunpazari Museum, Eskisehir Turkey and in major private collections in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. She also exhibits in selected art shows, including SOFA Chicago, International ArtExpo NY, Florence Biennale and Carousel du Louvre Paris.
The In Art Gallery - Glassblowing - December Show
The In Art Gallery is an online gallery and resource for emerging artists in all ranges of careers to have a platform for exhibiting artwork and reaching a global audience. The In Art Gallery provides opportunity for artists to submit work in various mediums in an international juried competition. In a world in which travel restrictions and access to art are becoming limited we are looking to create a space for artists to build their career and develop professional experience. The In Art Gallery will hold monthly juried exhibitions for artists to apply to and build their resume and provide an affordable juried venue for artists to exhibit. We are looking to provide artists with an avenue to have their work seen by professional artists, professors, curators, and critics across the globe. The submission fee will cover the cost of jurying, awards and website management.
This month our theme is Sculpture. Please submit your highest quality work that involves glass. This work will be a highly competitive exhibition of the selected entrant’s best work that reflects the theme of this show.
