Open Harmony

A Solo Exhibition of Works by Siri Stensberg

Artist Statement

Open Harmony is an immersive installation that explores the intersection of material, color, space, and sound. Iā€™m drawn to rhythms of light and matter that appear in the periphery of daily life. My work pulls from moving shadows cast by sunlight, plastic and fabric debris, and the crunch of pine needles under my feet. I collect and transform these everyday materials through experimental processes. In sensitive response to their tactile characteristics, I carefully refigure their appearances by acts of cutting, painting, stitching, and gluing. I assemble this living vocabulary of shape and color directly in the gallery. Open Harmony fosters a sense of endlessness as the viewer becomes lost in the multitude of its dynamic constellations.

Bio

Siri Stensberg grew up in Appleton, WI and received her BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Born into a musical family, Siri pursued dual paths in classical music and visual art. While in Eau Claire she balanced orchestra and chamber music performances while developing a language in abstract painting. Siri completed her MFA at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. Her practice is increasingly experimental; her interest in the intersection of space, sound, and time led her to video work and installation. She is currently based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
