Opposites Combine

A Solo Exhibition of Works by Mellissa Harvey

Artist Statement

Biomedical art is an area of study that not many people know exists. I believe art is an underrated part of the scientific field. Visuals are an important part of higher education, and my goal as a Scientific Illustrator is to create images that help explain concepts from anatomical relationships to physiological information. A well-thought-out illustration can bring the viewer from memorizing information to fully understanding and being able to apply complex scientific concepts. My creative process involves combining studies of biology, anatomy, and physiology with traditional and digital media in order to create; infographics, illustrations, and animations. Through observation of these illustrations the viewer is able to see portions of the human body, and microbiology that cannot be seen with the human eye.
